BLUE RIDGE DAYS Tennessee you rained so hard I’d swear you didn’t know me Now and then I catch your glance across the room Behind me, overshadowed by a stronger, better man I’m Midwest bound, my Blue Ridge days behind Said it’s been a long day And I know I’m gonna miss this someday But the Mississippi’s full of wrath for a city boy on a river raft Love let me be February made the 5th of May a romance Sorting through the mail and spare change in the pond Lyndale sounds like something I’ll remember when I’m old Those songs I hope you’ll sing when I am gone Said it’s been a long day It seems love’s a pretty girl on the subway But she walks so fast on the overpass and she’s never going my way Love let me be Said it’s been a long day It seems love’s a fleeting thought on the interstate Like a crash in a dream stuck repeating a scene it will surely drive you mad Love let me be

WINTERSET Brother please tell me a story in hopes that my hands will stop shaking Sister we're far from home and the demons that daddy's been drinking Mama quit throwing the china and daddy breaks down in the kitchen There's a rooster that calls to the oncoming And we'll sing to the morning a lullaby song as it dreams The moment away Dreamily speaking in tangents in shade of our trampoline Hoping the innocence holds as reality peeks through the screen Hiding in Holliwell Bridge at the end of our make believe scene There's a monster that chases where no one dare go And he's taking our fears and he'll curse them below to the river delta So take your sins take your pain and we'll send them on this train As we stand at the edge of the night All the lights on the street casting shadows on your feet And the ghosts as they hide in the leaves On the rails as we run to that old Midwestern sun Then to play in the taconite hills Sister Please close your eyes as the old oil lantern burns weaker Imagine a new little town, you're a movie star I'll be a preacher Till then rest your head little child on the window sill next to the speaker There's a heavenly hosts with the wind in their wings And they’re holding their candles in chorus they'll sing Halleluiah

BEDSHEETS & BROOMS I'll make a way for you With paths that only you and I know You'll carry home with you For where you will go we'll be there too Dressed in our coats and our Sunday shoes We'll build our city as we choose Cereal boxes paper and glue And there we will wait for you On our sky scrapers with telescope hands A prodigal homecoming band So look to me friend If your feet can walk I think that mine can Too young to laugh too old for crying As fortunate souls we filled our homes with brighter years These things I hope to be true In our city made of bedsheets and brooms We'll not let our sore souls intrude As finally now I do believe The old silver creek and the sound of the streets Were something of warmth and home to me For though they so vividly conspired They quickly regress for the mind to retire A squirrel trapezing a telephone wire But look to me then If the city should fall while we are growing Too old to laugh too old for dying I'll sing you a song of cities strong that you might hear

about

Early Inventions is essentially a retrospective. It is the result of a band that has gone through numerous changes over time and has spent more time in a basement than in the studio. These few songs cover a span of a few years. They are some of the most personal songs we've written, and they've been with us long enough for them to feel almost nostalgic. We love these songs. It is a long overdue first release for us. Having now amassed enough music to complete a full length follow up, we put these songs together virtually unchanged since they were written, as a look at where we came from. While the very basic soul of this music is still present in everything we do, our music is at times a clear departure from these elements. Please enjoy these stories.
